I am Landscape Architecture student and currently conducting a project researching the Germany Beck development at Fulford
My main concerns lie with the biodiversity of the site, the sites’ archaeological merits and the great loss of green space to the community.
I am also very interested in the recent deluge and road closure though Fulford and the impact of environmental climate change on the new-builds and how this has been accounted for.
I anyone has any comments or any photos of the recent flooding and road closure, please do not hesitate to contact me. Your opinions and recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Naiomi Saunders

Have the prospective candidates for the local council elections stated their views about the developments at Germany Beck and Connaught Court and Fulford generally?

There is something desperately wrong in the Planning Department of the City of York Council if they continue with their over development plans.
Connaught Court, Germany Beck, Coppergate II, The Barbican, Burton Croft – the list of recent disasterous planning decisions is immense. When will these Council nut-cases be stopped?

The Masons withdrew their original planning application for Connaught Court in January 2005 and immediately re-submitted a (very similar) planning application. As a result of submitting a “new” application, all letters of objection previously written to the Council are now invalid. It seems to play into the hands of the developers to make hundreds of people write again – perhaps that was the purpose of submitting the new application. I hope that everyone reading this has already written to the Council – or will do so straight away! It would be a shame if the Masons’ tactics paid off.

Yes, I agree that our children need houses to live in but they also need open green spaces where trees, flowers and wildlife are able to flourish – (this type of space is becoming ever rarer in York). The flats proposed for this parkland site will blight the area and as most are planned to face the ings, they will certainly not be cheap!

The over regulation and complication of planning procedures is half the reason this country has an unsutainable house pricing structure.
More low cost flat/housing devleopments should be allowed to go ahead to reduce the entry cost of housing.
Look to the future and where will your children be able to afford to live if more flats are not allowed to be built.

I have to agree that the loss of another part of York’s greenspace for the pressure of housing is not good and that this campaign should gain full support from local residents. Just a thought as someone new to the area surely if this is such a valuable resource to Fulford then more should be made of it for the general public. Surely this would be a better way of encouraging people to fight for something that was a resource they felt actively part of? I walk/cycle past Connaught Court regularly but it is hard to enjoy something from the other side of the fence. Is it possible to walk around the park- who knows! Establish paths or access to parts of the park would be a way forward.

I think this website is terrific – simple yet effective. There has been masses of support within Fulford for the fight against the Masons’ plans. This will be a really effective additional way that people can find out what is proposed and how to oppose it. Well done to the website designer!
If anyone looking at this site has not written to the Planning Officer, or has not signed the petition, I would urge them to do so.
