Dear Neighbour
Revised Plans for Connaught Court
You may have read in the press recently of the archaeological studies we have been carrying out at Connaught Court in connection with our plans to develop the care provision we offer. As good neighbours, we are committed to keeping you informed of our plans, and that is why I am writing to you now.
You will be aware that we wish to refurbish the existing accommodation, and extend the wing which provides care for residents with dementia and Alzheimers. Naturally, we understand that some neighbours have concerns about the proposed development of the site, and we have made it clear that we will strive to ensure that whatever is built here is sustainable and in keeping with the area.
We have reviewed our original application, and have withdrawn it. The new application, which has now been submitted, is based on the view that contrary to the Council’s normal policy, which requires a significant element of “affordable housing” on all new developments, there should be no such housing on the Connaught Court site. It is our contention that the”social” provision on the site is met by the accommodation we will be providing for some of society’s most frail and vulnerable older people.
Contrary to some media reporting, far from being “greedy developers” we are a charity which is committed to the care of older people, and have pledged that all money raised as a result of our plans will be ploughed back into providing the very best possible care for those to whom we make a lifelong commitment.
I will, of course, keep you informed of our plans, as they develop. In the meantime for further information you can contact Roger Friend at 20 Great Queen Street, London WC2B 5BG.
Yours sincerely
Nancy Gray

The proposal is reccommended for refusal on grounds that the bowling green is not of sufficient quality.
The committee meeting commences at 4.30pm with Connaught Court being 5th on agenda. The site meeting starts at 1.20 at the entrance to Connaught Court. Please come along if you are able.

It seems that the council is allowing the RMBI to revise their plans once again and there will be further re-consultation with residents before the application can be determined. Will it be June? Who knows? The problems of the bowling green have been obvious from the very beginning and it is outragous that the council did not advise the developers before now that the green is unfeasible in its present location.

There is a continuing problem with the council’s website which will not allow objections to this application to be made online.
CoYC are aware of this assured us some time ago that they will try to rectify the fault. Lucky we are so patient!
(Posted: 14 April 07)
The deadline for objections is April 18th and it is advisable to write as soon as possible, but it is still worth objecting even if you miss this date because all representations will continue to be accepted right up to the Committee meeting – probably 31st May with site meeting on 30th.
(Posted: 10 April 07)
All our previous objections to this development remain and the latest revisions do not begin to address the major problems.
We are reliably informed that the earliest date for the Committee to decide on the scheme will be in May – possibly the 17th.

See a full list of amendments since last June.
Some of these have not yet been advised to residents by CoYC.
