Latest Plans April 2006.
New plans are now available for viewing at St Leonards Place.
This is only an ammended plan and all objection letters already sent will still be relevant. However, if you would like to respond to the changes then (as before) please write or e-mail to Darren Hendley by May 10th quoting the same ref no: 05/00022/OUTM
These are the main changes:
- The line of the access road from Main Street has been moved slightly further to the south by tightening the radii, in order to allow more space around the bowling green. The access point onto Main St. remains in the same location, and only the sweep of the proposed road into the site has been altered.
- Ten parking spaces are now provided for the bowling green which is an increase of three spaces overall compared to the previous submission.
- The play area boundary has been re-drawn so that it does not lie under the canopies of veteran trees and it has been split into two locations. The larger of the two areas as before, is adjacent to the health centre while the smaller one is located overlooking the river between the last of the private houses and the apartment blocks.
- The bowling green will now be constructed on top of the ground surface resulting in a green which will sit just above ground level rather than set just below. This will necessiate constructing a concrete ring around the base of the Lime, covered with a metal grill and then having the ground levels built up gradually to the tree trunk.
- The route of the pathway into the car-park of the surgery has been moved a few metres to the east.
Our comments
- The bowling green is in the same position and it still doesn’t fit!
The edge of the green is still within inches of the lime tree bole
and the idea of the concrete ring, metal grill and the ground level sloping away seems bizarre! Even if it protected the tree against the worst of the excavation, the problems of shading, leaf fall and water demand still remain. More importantly, the beautiful setting of this tree (and the other surrounding trees) will be greatly damaged – it is after all, only feet from the edge of Fulford’s conservation area and a road and carpark does not compare to open grassland.
At the opposite side of the green, the lower part of the hedge will have to be cut back to incorporate the raised edge of the green and part of the green will still lie underneath the branches of the beech tree which will be totally impractical for players. - The extra parking will mean even more encroachment into the green space. A total of 28 parking bays will hardly enhance the amenity of the parkland!
- Two play areas instead of one will mean noise and disturbance in two areas.
More info on trees (& bats) later – we are awaiting further professional advice.
